The 12th UIC Sustainability Conference

The 12th UIC Sustainability Conference, jointly organised by the International Union of Railways and Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane took place in the unique and charming city of Venice in Italy.

Overview of the Conference Programme

Day 1: Strategy Day – Thursday October 25
Keynote speakers from the United Nations, EU Commission, Italian Government and railway companies, followed by a gala dinner.

Day 2: Technical Day – Friday October 26
Parallel sessions will discuss Energy, Pollution, Land Use, Integrated Transport, Climate Change Adaptation, Sustainable Procurement and External Costs. Also incorporating the RIVAS Mid-Term Conference (see below)

Day 3: Technical Visits – Saturday October 27
Visits to the FS control centre and the world-famous MOSE flood protection system.

The RIVAS Mid-Term Conference

The RIVAS project will be holding its mid-term conference during the second day of the 12th UIC Sustainability conference.

This project, funded through the Seventh Framework Programme for Research (FP7) of the European Commission, aims to reduce the environmental impact of ground-borne vibrations while safeguarding the commercial competitiveness of the railway sector.
The conference will take stock of the research undertaken so far, and discuss in detail the future work needed.
